40 Years City Run – SportScheck RUN Munich Celebrates its 40th Anniversary

It all started in Munich. At the first City Run in 1979 in the Färbergraben, almost 1,000 runners competed. This year on 24 June the starting shot for the SportScheck RUN was given for the 40th time and together with SportScheck we sent 16,539 participants off on the course! Over the years, the event has steadily developed into a major sports event that is now an integral part of the Munich sports calendar.

Since 2008, COMMUNICO has been the consulting and implementing agency alongside SportScheck in all aspects of the City Runs. On the occasion of the anniversary SportScheck provided a complete “makeover”: Newly designed shirts from Under Armour, an all-round coaching program, and the red carpet behind the finish line were other essentials.

The “Pro Coaching” as a comprehensive concept for customer and participant loyalty was very well received by the athletes. Even in the preparation phase, athletes were able to get valuable tips via social media and complete a Garmin running training program. During the competition, City Coaches and Pace Makers were at athletes’ side to spur them on to their best times. A “Cheering Zone” for spectators was also set up at the track to ensure the proper atmosphere.

For all kids there was a 2 km distance to run, which went from Ludwigstrasse past the Bavarian State Library and on to the English Garden. From this point the course took the children back towards the finish line. After a distance of 5 km the participants were able to enjoy the beautiful running course through the English Garden. Here there was something for everyone: On the distances from 5 km to 10 km and up to a half marathon at 21.1 km the runners could give it their all before they were honored at the medal ceremony on the Red Carpet and could pose for the photo shoot.

In the finish area we provided the right type of catering to receive the athletes in the best manner possible after their run.

To relax, a chill-out area was set up for all participants, where they could wind down after a perfect day.
